Artist of the Month: Bridget Riley

Looking for an artist that will also link to Science Week?

Check out Bridget Riley who creates different optical illusions.

There are lots of opportunities to explore the strand of Drawing while exploring the work of Bridget Riley.

Twinkl have a lovely powerpoint to explain what an optical illusion is and about the life of Bridget Riley.

I like this activity to explore optical illusions using the children’s hands. The children trace around their hand, they then draw straight lines across the page, however where the children’s hand is they draw a curved line. In this way you create a 3D effect.

Similarly you could create this circle art with a Senior Class. It gives you the chance to discuss the diameters of circles and explore drawing circles with a compass.

Share your ideas for Optical Illusion Art in the comments.
