Safer Internet Day 2018

Have you decided on some lessons to link with Safer Internet Day 2018?

There are many options available to link with Safer Internet Day tomorrow across many subjects.

The Safer Internet Day website has a great powerpoint to refer to across the day. I particularly like the rap on Slide 15. It is a great way to get the children’s attention and even respond to the topics highlighted in the rap.

I have also chosen some resources from Classroom Secrets to use in class tomorrow. There is a proof reading exercise based on E-safety and also some written activities for rules for staying safe online. Classroom Secrets is a subscription based site.

Webwise is another great resource that many teachers are familiar with, their pack My Selfie and the Wider world also has lots of great lessons with interactive videos to encourage discussion among the children. I particularly like the lesson on photos going viral, to encourage the children to stop and think before they post images online.

There are many videos on YouTube also to link with online safety. I think this video will give a strong message to children, I would send the link home for parents to watch with their child initially.

Finally don’t forget to take a selfie with your class tomorrow and add it to Twitter with #Up2Us to enter the great competition. Participating in Safer Internet Day is also a component in the Primary Science STEM awards this year.

If you have any questions please send me a PM.
