Parents and Distance Learning Day 3

Hi everyone,

I hope all my followers are staying safe and are working through Distance Learning options, whether you are a parent or a teacher.

Distance Learning will take time to adapt to, whether it is organising a routine for your family so they can access digital tools and get their work done or on the other end the teacher trying to plan work for your class that is manageable.

Schools sent home packs with two weeks work for home use, however it looks like schools may be closed for much longer than the initial two weeks. If your child has worked through the pack from the teachers already, don’t panic. There are lots of options to engage your child at home.

At the moment I am focusing on revision work with my class and focusing on specific areas they found tricky. I have sent home access to online sites such as Manga High and Sum Dog. These are perfect for revising skills and strategies. If you can’t access online activities play games with your class.

There are lots of games that can be played with a deck of cards to focus on addition and multiplication skills. Give the children a focus number and turn the cards face down, they keep turning over cards and add or multiply with the amount in their pile to reach the focus number or get close to it. Click here for lots of other maths games to play with a deck of cards

Dominoes are also great for revising maths skills. In junior classes you could match the dominoes and create patterns. In senior classes I used dominoes for fractions. Turn over one domino and simplify the fraction, is it top heavy etc. The person with the highest fraction gets to keep both dominoes. You could also use dominoes for a STEM activity to create towers or marble run. Click here for more maths games to play with dominoes.

If you have access to printer don’t forget to sign up to receive packs from Mrs Mactivity for home learning.

If you have any questions or queries on home learning, please send me a PM.

Stay Safe everyone Stay at Home
