Diary of an Isolating Teacher Lockdown 3.0 Day 1

So here we are back to another strict lockdown, school closures and remote learning. I hope everyone is keeping safe and well in this current situation.

This time it is very different for me, as I am working as a casual sub and honestly it has been worrying and stressful for me, waiting for news this week and then the U turn on decisions for special classes and special schools. But I have been very fortunate to get some substitution work. I had got a call about this subbing work from a school I had covered a few days in prior to the Christmas holidays, but was waiting on confirmation of it this week. So, I am beginning remote learning on Monday and I am anxiously looking forward to it.

As my sibling is a frontline healthcare staff and I am now working from home, I am going to help out with childcare. We have our own family bubble so it makes sense to keep us all safe. We had the same bubble in the last lockdown so I understand the pressures of parents working from home and also trying to keep children on task for remote learning. So I will update my Instagram story with our activities too.

I will visit the school on Monday to get the laptop and other books, resources I will need and to learn about their platform also. So I will update you all on my progress and which platform I am using then. I have feelings of mixed anxiety, relief and a little excitement of returning to remote learning with a new class of students, but I am so relieved and thankful to have some subbing work also.

I have used so many tools, apps, platforms throughout the years so I hope to share them in future blog posts for the month of January. If you want to see anything specific please let me know.

For now, I am going to make the most of my weekend, even in lockdown. Some Netflix perhaps in this frosty weather and the very last of the Christmas chocolates (even the strawberry ones!).

Stay Safe, and Stay Warm!!!
